A laser printer uses toner and heat to fuse the toner to the paper. Inkjets spray micro dots of ink onto the paper.
Ink refills are cheaper than toner (but toner typically lasts longer per cartridge) and generally ink is less permanent than toner. Some colored ink can fade; not so much black.
Color laser printers are an option; they take 4 toner cart’s. Much bigger printer, too.
laser is better for black and white and uses toner which the cartridges last for thousands of pages.
Ink jets have better quality but ink is more expensive and does not last as long.
A laser uses toner similar to a photocopier. Ink jet printers use small cartridges full of ink. In addition to toner cartridges high end laser printers have a sealant roller which is a consumable and can require replacement OPC belts and corona wires.
