Inkjet Printer Cartridges - the Best 3 Sites
4inkjets.com * Cheapest and best overall
So many readers wrote in to tell me about this site I figured I had to heed their call. A full review is currently in preparation but let me give you the skinny: this site offers a winning combination of sharp prices and top service.
In fact BizRate have just awarded them their coveted “Circle of Excellence Platinum Award.” Only 41 of BizRate’s thousands of vendors have achieved this rating. This is a pretty impressive for a discount operation and a big comfort for potential buyers in an industry characterized by many fly-by-night operations.
Shipping is $3.95 but free if you spend $50 or more. But the prices are so sharp you’ll find that you are still mostly better off here than with sites that offer free shipping but higher prices.
#2: www.123inkjets.com
This company is a web based retailer of compatible and re manufactured cartridges, refills, laser toners and paper. They have been operating since 1998.
The professional looking web site displays current specials on the front page and some of these were selling at really low prices. This set our expectations high that we would get some great prices on our test selection of cartridges. We were not disappointed!
To find the cartridge you want you must navigate via your printer brand and then select from printer type as there is no search box provided.
The page where you select by type, lists all types on a single page and it is quite tedious to find what you are looking for. There is no provision to search by cartridge number other than using the Edit/Find on Page feature of your browser.
Searching by printer type is made even more tedious by virtue of the fact that each printer categories end with a hyperlink labeled ‘and the following printers’ This means that if you can’t find your printer you have to rather tediously search through all these hyper-linked pages. Frankly it’s a pain in the butt. Come on guys, you’ve got a great site with great prices - give us a proper search facility by printer model and cartridge number.
Yes, the prices are good, though not the cheapest. And as a bonus, the shipping was very cheap - only $1.95 for USPS ground mail.
Ordering was simple enough though it appears you cannot order by phone. In fact we couldn’t even find a contact number from the web site. Maybe we missed it. One thing is for sure … if it’s there, it isn’t obvious!
Our order turned up 5 days later, a bit slow, but about what you would expect for USPS ground mail. The goods were as ordered and in first class condition.
Returns require prior approval but that proved no problem. You get a full 100% refund excluding shipping. They have an excellent returns policy:
“If you are not completely satisfied with the performance of our products you may return opened cartridges within 90 days of purchase for a free replacement or full refund.”
Now that is generous and comforting. We opted for a full refund and it was received promptly.
In summary a really good service oriented company with good prices and low shipping costs, the only negative being that it can be quite time consuming to locate the cartridge you need on their web site.
#3: www.all-ink.com
All-Ink sells compatible inkjet cartridges, refill kits and fax ribbons and claims over 8 years experience in the imaging supplies industry. Of all the suppliers reviewed they are the only ones to offer a 110% refund, if not completely satisfied. Judging by the company’s customer excellent ratings at BizRate I’d say that don’t have give this generous refund often!
The web site will win no beauty contest but is quite functional. Just select your printer brand from the front page then find your cartridge either from the printer model or alternatively the cartridge part number.
A neat feature of the site is a useful resources section with lots of useful tips covering everything from refilling tips to getting ink stains off your fingers. You should browse this even if you don’t purchase anything.
Prices were generally pretty sharp though 1 cartridge in our test selection was relatively expensive. A check through a number of other cartridges not in our selection showed similar anomalies, though to be fair 11 out of the 13 cartridges checked were very competitively priced.
Ordering proved straight-forward. A nice little bonus was that we paid no shipping charges as the order was over $40.00. Three days later our cartridges arrived in good condition.
Returns require an RMA number and we obtained this by email. Once obtained the RMA is good for 30 days. Once we had our RMA, we returned the cartridges, with shipping at our expense. Eight days later we received a full 110% refund as promised. This excluded all shipping costs but we would still have to say, this is as good as it gets.
In summary we were impressed: smart service, free shipping over $40, a top rate returns policy and generally low prices.
